Illustrating Kids Stories with Stickers

Even though she is almost six. Greta sometimes gets frustrated if she cannot draaw something. We always have LOTS of stickers on hand. I lay out a mess of them on the table and let her have at it.

She dictates the story to me. I write it down just as she tells me. She is developing language and vocabulary skills while playing with words.

I add a few of these stories to her yearly scrapbook. We are documenting her imagination.

Adding Nature to your Play

Sometimes, it is difficult to get outdoors. I know. Living in Ohio, the weather does not always allow us to be outside.
But we can still play in Nature.
You can add elements of nature and incorporate it into your daily play. Add those twigs that your kiddos collect to your sensory play or pretend play.
We added real reindeer moss to out Tell Me A Story Tuesday story.
The great thing about reindeer moss is that it doesn't need dirt and stays together in big clumps.
These Mole Babies can be found on Etsy. The peg dolls and Tree Stump Cottage are available in my shop.

Tell Me A Story Tuesday - Mole Babies

One day, the Mushroom People were out in the forest gathering mushrooms before the first snow. They happened upon a huddle of mole babies.
"We can't leave them here." said the Mushroom Child. "They will freeze."
Mama Mushroom emptied their mushroom basket. She gently lifted a Mole Baby into the basket. Only one baby would fit, and there were five babies.
Papa Mushroom found a large leaf.  Placing the Mole Babies into the leaf, they dragged the leaf through the forest to their home.
As they passed the animals of the forest in their way to the home, they said, "If you see Mother Mole, tell her that her babies are safe and warm with us."
Mama Mushroom placed the Mole Babies into the bed, but they fussed. Mushroom Child thought they needed bottles. After all five babies were fed, they were covered with a mossy, cozy blanket. They slept until Mother Mole came to get them. She thanked the Mushroom People for caring for her babies.

Review Safari Ltd Incredible Creatures

First, let me state that I am not an employee or paid by Safari Ltd - I just love love love their toys!
I just bought three NEW Incredible Creatures - the pig, ferret, and duckling.
When Greta, age 5 saw the 2016 catalog, she exclaimed, "We HAVE to get those for our pet shop!"
We have many, many Incredible Creatures in this house and I will tell you why. I love the company's motto "Toys that Teach". I love the quality of each toy. They are detailed and hand painted. They are solid figures and large. The duckling measures approximately five inches tall.
Greta is so excited to set up a pet shop dramatic play area. I will share photos soon.

Gathering Ideas

If you ask any of my peers, friends, family...they will say they call me an ask for 10 ideas for a party or a theme or play and I give them 20!
I think the ideas are locked in my brain and when someone requests them, they just come spilling out!
Right now, I am gathering props for a Tell Me A Story idea. I ordered the mole babies from an Etsy shop called shadowfairy. I made the peg doll in the middle and the last photo. They are available in my shop.

I hope to share photos on Saturday or Tuesday or...

Easter themed sensory table

The benefits of sensory play far outweigh the mess & clean up.

Today, we put together an Easter theme sensory table. We used...

*5 bags of split peas ($7 total)
* plastic Easter eggs - great for pouring, scooping, filling up, making musical instruments etc
* chick erasers found in the Dollar Spot at Target

We are having so much fun. Mostly, Roo, age 2 is filling the eggs with peas and shaking them. But G, age 5, is hiding the chick erasers inside the plastic eggs and making them "hatch".

New Twist on Easter egg filling

I love love love the challenge of finding non candy fillers for those plastic eggs. I use coins, small animals from Safari Ltd toobs, peg dolls, etc.

On Saturday night (Easter eve if you will!) I sneak into the backyards of my niece and nephew or Nanny girls and scatter 100s of eggs filled with "treasure".

I love Easter!

Non-candy Easter Egg filler

Do you want a sweet idea for filling those plastic Easter eggs without the sugar?
I have the perfect solution! Peg dolls. They are quite conceivably the perfect toy. Small, portable, fits in little hands, detail just enough that kiddos can use their imagination, and no small pieces to break off.
Create a unique Easter Basket that kiddos can play with later like in the top photo. It's one of my tree stump houses. The middle photo shows @teenyweenyboutique peg dolls on Etsy. She is amazing! The bottom photo are peg dolls from my Etsy shop.

Kids love hide-y holes

When I was 5, my parents brought home my baby sister. I was less than thrilled. She cried a lot and demanded a lot of my parents' attention. As she got other, she was always getting into my stuff.
I began searching for hide-y holes for my greatest treasures - mostly small animals and a teeny tiny baby from The Littles.

Kiddos love hide-y holes. Any place to tuck, hide, and keep their tiny treasures. This felt cottage has two hide-y holes. The cove on the side and...the dormer is actually a small pocket for small items!

I love creating items that I know Will spark The kiddos (and the adults!) imaginations!
